Our moter India has produced a number of great personalities who adorn the glory and dignity of this earth very much. One of them is Rabindranath Tagore.

Rabindranath Tagore, the pride of Bengal was the greatest poet of India and even the world. He was born in kolkata on 6th May in 1861.He came of a rich jamidar family of Jorasanko .Tagore family was top  to bottom a cultural family. Rabindranath brighten the flame of culture among the bengalies. He was a in born poet. He started the culture of literature from his boyhood. He was not only a poet,besides poems, he wrote novels, dramas, short stories, essays and hundreds of songs etc also. He has grown gold in the various branches of Bengali literature. He was a versatile genious. He translated his great book 'Geetajali' into English which is famous by the name 'Song offerings'. And he won Nobel Prize  in 1913 for 'Song Offerings'. He had shown his endless love for life, beauty, and his country through his creation of literature. He tried to change our monotonous education system. So he founded the Viswa Bharati at Santiniketan in  1902 to provide education in open air. He gave up Knighthood on protest against the hellish killings at Jalianwallabag by the British.

This great legendary poet passed away on 7th August,1941. He was loved and honoured all over the world as 'Viswakabi'. This great personality will remain alive for ever through his priceless creation.
