If there is no minimum balance in a bank's savings account, you will have to pay
a penalty. The center introduced this rule several years ago. Recently, ICICI
Bank has increased that balance a lot. As a result, the minimum balance of all
banks has been revised. Find out.
State Bank of India: The country's largest government bank came out of the
minimum balance rule five years ago. This means that the customers of State Bank
are relaxed. They have no place to worry about this issue.
Canara Bank: This bank's rules have changed since last June. Now there is no
need to maintain any 'average monthly balance' in savings, salary and NRI
accounts. At one time, if this balance was not maintained, one would have to
face a heavy penalty.
Indian Bank: This bank has also abolished the minimum balance rule. The new rule
was implemented last month. As a result, customers here too do not need to worry
about this issue anymore.
Punjab National Bank: The country's second largest government bank. In July,
this bank also decided to abolish the minimum balance rule.
Bank of Baroda: This bank also offered zero balance facility to its customers in
July. That is, there is no obligation to maintain a minimum balance. However,
premium account customers will have to maintain a certain balance.
HDFC Bank: The minimum balance rule is still in full force in this bank. In case
of city accounts, it is Rs 10,000. But in case of suburban and rural accounts,
it is minimum Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,500. Failure to maintain it will attract a fine
of Rs 600 in urban areas and Rs 300 in suburban and rural areas.
Axis Bank: It is mandatory to maintain an average monthly balance of Rs 10,000
in this bank for suburban or rural areas. If this is not done, then a penalty of
6 percent will be levied on the amount that is less. However, according to the
new rules, the maximum penalty amount is currently Rs 600.
ICICI Bank: Customers of this bank will have to maintain a minimum balance of Rs
50,000. Earlier it was Rs 10,000. In suburban branches, it is Rs 25,000. 10
thousand taka for rural branches.
